Pole dancing itself has gained momentum and popularity in recent years, but the art form actually goes back over eight-hundred years, deriving from a traditional Indian sport, mallakhamb.  Similar exhibitions have been seen in various other cultures, ranging from China and Asia into Africa. While it has evolved from the original wooden poles to metal, the overall concepts remain the same.  There is even competition for both men and women, stressing the strength and overall artistic elements of pole dancing. Visit https://www.instagram.com/maggie_falling/ to see some short videos of a former world champion in competitive action.

In this section, we’ll take a look in-depth at each of the five dance poles above.  We’ll look into some of the specifications, features, and other details, including the pros and cons of each pole.  We’ve nominated each of the five for a specific “best of” category and will offer some insight into the reasons for those choices by way of our general impressions, and a short summary of why we feel it is in the “best of” category.

1.Yaheetech Professional Dancing Pole – Best Dance Pole for Carpet

Yaheetech Professional Stripper Pole Spinning Static Dancing Pole Portable Removable
View on Amazon

General Impressions

This budget-priced dance pole offers many of the same features as the higher-end poles.  It is suitable for all user levels, from beginner to expert, and is very highly rated for beginners.

Technical Details

It fits spaces from 7’3” up to 9’, supports 440 pounds (200 kg), and is a standard 45mm diameter pole.  Made from steel with chrome plating, the joints are virtually seamless, reducing stress and abrasion on the hands.

Contents

The kit comes with two large poles, and two smaller inserts for height adjustments.  The inserts can be used separately or together. All required tools are included, except for a stud finder to properly secure it against the ceiling.

Installation

Threaded joints make for easy assembly.  The kit includes the poles, two extension pieces, and all the tools needed for assembly.

Best Features

It has an easy adjustment allowing the pole to be fixed in place, or set to a spinning mode.  Both the top and bottom bases have a silicone gasket to provide protection against damage to your floor and ceiling.

Pros:
  • Ratcheting system is used to vary the height and to lock the pole firmly into place.  This technology is stronger and more precise than the tension rod approaches some poles used.  The threaded insert is adjustable to exact height
  • Many nice features for a budget price
Cons:
  • Lack of warranty information available for the dance pole
  • Manufacturer is foreign-based so that support may be an issue

Conclusion

Overall, this is a well-made dancing pole.  It has an articulated base, which will give it added stability on carpeted or uneven floors.  The adjustment method will allow you to make a tight, secure installation between the carpet and ceiling, with no movement when installed following instructions.  The silicone gasketing will offer additional protection from damaging your carpeting.

Installation

Installation instructions are covered in the accompanying video, and, based on user feedback, are uncomplicated and easy to follow.  Standard techniques, such as ensuring true vertical alignment and centering on a ceiling joist are assumed, as always.

Best features

With five different extensions included in the standard kit, you have a lot of flexibility based on ceiling height.  Fewer joints reduce the risk of hand abrasion. The oversized ceiling dome provides excellent support and stability.

Pros:
  • Complete setup made to high standards
  • Six-month warranty for manufacturing defects; US-based customer service
  • Excellent ratings for sturdiness, durability, overall value
Cons:
  • Warranty covers only manufacturing defects, not defects from use, wear and tear, chipping of the chrome plating, etc.

Conclusion

This is a very well-made and solidly constructed dance pole, designed with the highly experienced user or professional in mind.  You get a pole that is easily transportable, and a DVD to cover installation and basic dance moves for any experience level. Customer satisfaction is very high with this model, and it is being marketed to a tough crowd.  If you have been at this game for a while, and are looking for a new pole, this is the best one for professionals and experts.

Mega Brand Dabce Pole Package

Installation

An easy and simple installation and adjustment system make this a great pole if you don’t have a permanent location for it.  Simply screw together the main poles and the necessary inserts, and make the final adjustment with the flange system. Reverse the process to take it down.

Best Features

High-quality electroplating with a chrome finish and virtually seamless joints make this dance pole very easy on the hands; less abrasion equals better grip and better performance.  It has a very wide ceiling dome, which spreads the pressure to the ceiling more evenly. As with all these poles, it will still need to be centered on a ceiling joist.

Pros:
  • Extra-wide ceiling dome and articulated base give excellent stability
  • Easy to set up, even on uneven floors
Cons:
  • Based on user comments, only a 30-day warranty, and low-quality customer service

Conclusion

Given the easy installation, and added features like a wider ceiling dome and articulated base, this pole is ideal for the user in a small apartment or space where the pole has to be put up and taken down regularly.  Extra-long to cover more height variation, it’s perfect for an apartment dweller and easy to adopt if you change apartments or locations.

Cons:
  • Pole only offers support for 250 pounds; others for as much as 400 pounds

Conclusion

This pole is designed for the newcomer to pole dancing, featuring easy, ladder-free assembly.  The LED light system is a nice bonus, giving even a beginner a professional feel. Budget-priced with a good warranty, this is a great starter pole.

5. AW Portable Dancing Pole Kit – Best Dance Pole for the Money

General Impressions

Add a dollar to the lowest price pole in this review, and you can get this one.  But the price isn’t the real reason to get this pole; it’s the overall value of the dance pole.  With a polished chrome exterior, seamless joints, and extra strong flange designs, it’s easy to see why this is our best pole for the money.  The connection system for the main poles looks very secure and is threaded for excellent strength.

Technical Details

Stretching from 7’2” to 9’, and supporting as much as 440 pounds, this 45 mm pole offers strength and durability. It features a double width ceiling dome to effectively spread the pressure points across a wider area and an articulated base.  Additional extensions are also available for purchase separately.

Installation

Like the other models, this pole is easily assembled, using only the supplied tool kit and a stud finder.  The height adjustments are simple, and the teardown is very easy. As always, make sure that a ceiling joist is centered on the upper dome, and the pole is installed perpendicular to the floor and ceiling.

AW 45mm Dancing Pole installation

Pros:
  • Extra safety and stability with flanged connections at the base and ceiling domes
  • Top seller on Amazon, good reviews for sturdiness
Cons:
  • No warranty information available
  • Some reports of pole locking in place after extended periods; difficult to remove

You get a lot of basic functionality with this dance pole, and, with the available options, even more, flexibility to use it in varied locations or rooms.  The price is definitely budget-friendly, and with the sturdy construction enhanced by flanged domes, it is certainly a “best pole” for the money.

Buyers Guide – How to Choose Best Portable Stripper Pole

In this section, we’ll give you a little bit more detail on some of the key features and specifications you should consider when picking out your dance pole.  Some of these features will be generic across all the models, some available on specific models only, and some of interest to specific people. Our goal is to give you a little more detailed knowledge to help you make the best purchasing decision for your specific needs.

Pole Diameter

Dance poles are available in various diameters, with 40 mm, 45 mm, and 50 mm being the most common.  40 mm (and smaller) diameter poles might be needed by people with very small hands, and therefore unable to grip the larger diameter poles. 45 mm poles are very common and are the specified diameter in virtually all dance pole competitions.

They are designed for the average user. The 50 mm pole would be of primary interest for dancers with very large hands. Note that pole diameter is not necessarily corresponding to pole strength. The true strength of tubular stock will be determined by the thickness of the metal itself (outside diameter minus inside diameter).

Articulated Flanges

All of the poles here have a lower and upper dome, where the pole will meet the floor and ceiling.  To assemble the pole, there will be a vertical insert centered on the dome, and the main poles will thread into or slide over this insert.  In some of the poles, this insert will be welded to the dome, and it is assembled from that point. In others, it might be an integrated piece to the dome itself.

In articulated flanges, the insert is attached to a flange, which is then bolted to the dome for additional strength when compared to the non-articulated flanges. In this way, there is less chance of a broken weld or damage inflicted by the twisting motions of pole dancing.  An example of an articulated flange is shown below.

Installation

Most of these poles will be installed on a removable basis.  In general, people do not want to permanently damage their floors or ceilings by drilling holes for the attachment bolts necessary for a permanent fixture.  While some of the poles here offer kits for sale for permanent installations, they all are primarily designed to be temporarily installed. There are several key issues to the installation, including:

  • Stability: The pole must be tightly held between the floor and ceiling, and adjusted using the tools and technology of that particular pole.  See “contact points” below for further information.

  • Position: The pole should be checked to ensure a vertical installation, 90o perpendicular to the floor and ceiling.  If not perfectly vertical, the pole may move, or the spin function (see below) may be impaired. /li>

  • Contact points: The contact with the floor is not as important as that to the ceiling, but it still should be checked carefully.  The contact should be as level as possible. Some of the domes will offer sealing discs, typically silicone rubber, to offer some additional flexibility for uneven floors or ceilings.  Contact at the ceiling is especially critical. First, dance poles can never be assembled in areas with a drop or suspended ceiling. Popcorn ceilings (those with a textured finish) are normally not an issue, but some people take the added precaution of adding a wood piece between the upper dome and the ceiling for additional stability and to prevent potential damage to the ceiling.  The absolutely critical piece of ceiling contact is making sure that there is a wood joist running through the center point of the top dome. This gives added strength and stability. Attempting installation only to the drywall or sheetrock, typically very fragile and as little as ½” thick, will certainly result in severe ceiling damage without the support of a joist behind them.

Joints

In almost all dance poles, there are multiple pieces of tubing that must be joined together.  These joints may be threaded, slip joints, or supported with inserts. Look for joints that are tight and firm, with limited gaps, and smooth to the grip when assembled.  Rough or separated joints will cause blisters and abrasions to your hands, and possibly cuts.

Spinning/static Dance Poles

While some dance poles have only one of these functions, all of the poles reviewed here can be changed between spinning mode or static mode.  Which mode you choose will depend on your planned routine on the pole. You should check the methodology used to change back and forth between the two modes.  It may involve using set screws to lock down the spin function, or it could be as simple as putting a small insert through two aligned holes to lock them. Your installation instructions or the manufacturer’s technical or customer service groups can help you in the event of difficulty.

FAQ

1) Which pole dance for home fitness?

Several of the poles reviewed here come with instructional videos, with some offering examples of beginner, intermediate, and advanced pole dance routines.  Instructional videos are also for sale on many web sites, and Google searches may turn up examples you can use. YouTube has several videos related to pole dancing exercises.

2) What size of stripper dance pole should I get for home?

There are two elements to size, so let’s address each.  First is the height of the pole, which will be a function of the ceiling height where you plan to install it.  These poles all fit a fairly wide size range, typically from seven to nine feet. Some of the ones reviewed here sell additional inserts separately to accommodate taller ceilings.  For ceilings under seven feet, you may need to contact the manufacturer directly for advice on how to size a pole correctly for that height.

The other size issue is pole diameter.  Sizes of 40mm, 45mm, and 50mm are the most common, with the 45mm size used in competitions.  If you have unusually small or large hands, you may need to go with a smaller or larger size, but the 45mm diameter should work for almost everyone.

3) How to install a stripper pole?

The installation will vary slightly from model to model, but most are quite easy to install.  There will normally be a small tool kit supplied with the pole. You assemble the two main pipes as instructed, then attached them to the floor dome.  Add any inserts you may need to accommodate your ceiling height. Make sure you install the top dome directly over a ceiling joist for strength and stability and adjust the height until the pole will stand in place by itself.  We recommend checking with a level at this point to make sure it is 90o vertical to the floor and ceiling.  Once aligned, fully tighten the height adjustment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

4) How to make a stripper pole not spin?

Each manufacturer may use a different method to change from spinning to static mode.  This should be clearly defined in the installation instructions. Some will use a set screw arrangement to lock the pole in place, while others may feed an insert through aligned holes to stop the spinning.  Consult the user manual or contact the customer service team of the manufacturer if you are in doubt.

5) What to use to clean chrome stripper pole?

The chrome plating needs very little maintenance.  Following your workout, wipe the pole down with a mixture of water and mild dishwashing detergent.  This will remove grease and sweat accumulated during your workout. You should then rinse with clean water and dry with paper toweling.

6) Can I use my pole on carpet?

Yes, you can. However, there is a list of point to consider so that you install the pole safely. First of all, you need to be aware of the fact that the carper will compress about 2 inches, and that is crucial when you are measuring the ceiling height. Also, after you set the pole up, you may need to tighten it up due to that very compression.

7) Will my pole damage my floor/ceiling?

A quality pole will not leave any marks on either the floor or the ceiling as long as it is installed and maintained properly. Most poles come with soft, silicone pads around the base. Even if there are minor marks left, they can easily be rubbed off.

 Final Summary

Pole dancing has finally shaken loose from the past imagery of sleazy, seedy men’s clubs, and has moved into the realm of an acceptable part of an overall fitness routine.  As you can see from these reviews, the financial entry barriers are quite low, and all the exercises and routines can be done in the privacy of your home, without paying for expensive gym memberships.

With its roots in various cultures from around the globe, all the stigmas and preconceptions about pole dancing are quickly fading into the background.  Global competitions combine elements of strength training, gymnastics, and bodybuilding, and these same aspects can be incorporated into your workouts through a myriad of videos and other instructional tools available.

If you are looking for a way to increase your personal fitness that supports weight loss, gives you a full-body workout, and helps you be flexible, strong, and focused, pole dancing exercises may be for you.  Plus, in addition to all these benefits, it’s fun!

I’m digging the Yaheetech Dancing Pole. But I’m not sure whether I can install it on my carpet floor or not, though. Will it be ok? Won’t the floor get damaged over time?
